Sir M Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology (SMVIT) is a technical education institute based in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The Institute is named after Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, a well known Engineer, Statesman and a former Diwan of Mysore.

The Institute is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University and approved by All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi. It has also been accredited by the NBA.

Sir MVIT is situated on a vast campus of 133 acres on the Bellary road near Air Force station, Yelahanka, close to Bengaluru International Airport. It has been ranked No. 1 among the engineering colleges in the State of Karnataka by the reputed magazine `Dataquest’.

The college has a full-fledged training & placement cell. Top companies like Wipro, Aditi Technologies, Infosys, Cognizant, Hp, De-Shaw, Tcs, Crompton Greaves, Tata Elxsi, Accenture, Robert Bosch, Itc Infotech, Hcl Technologies, L&T Infotech , Caritor India, Birlasoft, Sasken, Lg Soft, Sonata Soft, Accord Software. Hughes, Cater Pillar, Satyam, Mindtree, Igate, Iflex etc have been conducting campus recruitment in the institute students on continuous basis. Every year around 35 to 40 top companies (including non-IT companies) visit the institute and 90 to 100% students are placed.

The institute offers B.Tech and M.Tech courses and also MBA, MCA, M.Sc (Engg) and PhD programmes.

Hostel and Facilities

Hostel

The institution comprises 6 constructed hostels- 4 for men and 2 for women students, housing 300 women and 640 men; another women’s hostel is presently under construction.

The twin sharing basis rooms provide tables, cots, chairs; bed-rolls, linens and other requisites are to be brought by residing students. Computers can be kept with Rs.100 additional monthly fee.

Dietary needs of the students are fulfilled by a mess providing both vegetarian and non vegetarian meals. Hostels are supervised by a warden and residents wardens.

Campus Facilities

• Athletic inclinations get boosted by facilities for outdoor games like a football field; an athletic track; a cricket pitch; basketball, kho-kho, badminton and volleyball courts.
• Indoor games like chess, carom, two sets of badminton and table tennis equipments; a multi-station gymnasium with cycle, dumbbell-plate set and treadmill are present in the hostel campus.
• The library and information centre extends books, periodicals and e-journals; an internet centre advances browsing access. A Kotak Mahindra Bank branch and ATM facilities exist within the campus precincts.
• Dental treatment is provided to students by Krishnadevaraya College of Dental Sciences and Hospital with facilities for transportation to nearby hospitals for other medical emergencies being present simultaneously.
• The college canteen is instrumental in supplying with North Indian and South Indian dishes to the students.
