The Aarupadai Veedu Medical College and Hospital, was established at Pondicherry in the year 2000, with due approval from the Government of India and Medical Council of India.The first batch of 100 Medical students was admitted successfully for the academic year 2000-2001.Presently 800 students are studying in the College.

All pre-clinical and Para-clinical departments are located in the college premises.They are fully equipped with their own Laboratory, Library, Demonstration Room and Museum.The necessary basic equipments and staffs are available in the college. Med-Varsity functioning in the Institution with the 15 systems. The college having both intranet and internet services. This institution is tele-linked with other members of VMU for telemedicine purposes.

  • Hospital facilities: The hospital’s bed strength is nearly 750 with are fully equipped ICCU & IMCU. Along with 11 air conditioned operation theatres, equipments like defibrillator, ventilation systems, CT scan, ultrasound, dialysis machine and nephrology units and auto analyzers are available.
  • FACULTY OF ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES: Faculty of Allied Health sciences started in the AV-Medical College and Hospital campus in the year 2003. It started with Dept. of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology and now has 4 departments catering to 7 courses at Diploma, Bachelors and M.Phil level.
  • COUNSELLING PROGRAMMES: The institute has formulated a programme entitled “In Safe Hands”, where each teacher mentors and counsels three students. This is aimed at providing the students with a guide who would advise and counsel them about their problems both academic and personal.
  • CAMPUS: The campus is spread over more than 40 acres of land. The campus offers a holistic and conducive ambience to the students.
  • STUDENT TRAINING FACILITIES: The pre-clinical and para-clinical departments are well equipped with their own laboratories, demonstration rooms, library, etc. The library has around 10,000 books and 100 journals.

Eligibility for MBBS

Age Limit

Candidate should have completed the age of 17 years on or before the first day of July of academic year in which the candidate is seeking admission.

Qualifying Examination

  • The Higher Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate examination which is equivalent to 10 + 2 Higher Secondary. The study should comprise of Physics Chemistry and Biology with English.

Or

  • The Intermediate examination in science of an Indian University Board.

Or

  • The pre-Professional / pre-medical examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, after passing either the higher secondary school examination.

Or

  • The first year of the three years degree course of a recognized University with physics, Chemistry and Biology including a practical test in these subjects.

Or

Selection of Students:Merit basis: -

  • Candidate must have obtained not less than 50% marks in English and 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together both at qualifying and competitive examinations.
  • For Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (OBC) the marks obtained are read as 40% instead of 50% Candidates who have passed any qualifying examination shall obtain an eligibility certificate from the University.
  • Cut – Off Date for Admission for I Year MBBS Course is 30th September every year.

ACADEMIC YEAR, ACADEMIC TERM & DURATION OF COURSE OF STUDY

  • The academic year commences from 1st August every year.
  • The Academic Term for every Student shall be a certified period of study extending over 41/2 academic years followed by one year of Compulsory Rotating Resident Internship.
  • First MBBS -1 year
  • Second MBBS -1 ½ year
  • Third MBBS - Part - 1-1 year
  • Third MBBS - Part - 2-1 Year
  • One year of compulsory Rotatory Resident Internship

Eligibility for PG Courses

The candidate must possess recognized MBBS degree and should have obtained permanent Registration as medical practitioners with the Medical Council of India or any of the State Medical Councils.

In the case of foreign nationals holding non-schedule foreign medical qualifications, they must have temporary Registration (issued by Medical Council of India) for the duration of their postgraduate Training restricted to the medical college / institution to which they are admitted for the time being for post graduate studies and for no other purpose.

Selection of students

The students applying for PG degrees/PG (Dip)/ Higher Specialties courses under Vinayaka Missions University shall be selected based on “ALL INDIA ENTRANCE EXAMINATION” conducted by this University.

Eligibility certificate

Candidates who have passed any qualifying examination shall obtain an eligibility certificate from this university by remitting the prescribed fee along with the application form before seeking admission to the Medical Institutions.

Last Date for Admission

The last date for Admission to I Year of PG degree/ diplomas is 31st May every year.

The last date for Admission to I Year of Higher specialty is 30th September every year.

M.D. / M.S.

The minimum period of training for obtaining these degrees shall be three calendar years.

D.M./ M.Ch.

The minimum period of training for these degrees shall be two calendar years, after obtaining M.D., M.S. degrees, or equivalent recognized qualification.

Eligibility

To pursue MBBS/BDS at AVMC students must satisfy following eligibility criteria.

The candidate should be 17 years old (as on 31st December of the admission year). He/She should have appeared for an exam cosidered to be equivalent to 10+2 Higher Secondary Exam and studied PCB (Physics, Chemistry and Biology). The candidate should have studied English at 10+2 level. Candidate satisfying any of the following criteria are also eligible -

1) Candidates who have appeared for Intermediate examination in science with subjects PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) and English. Those who have appeared for pre-professional/pre-medical exams with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English and have appeared for 10+2 Higher Secondary Exam or intermediate exam are also eligible.

2) Candidates who have passed the first year of a 3 year degree course with subjects - Physics, Chemistry, Biology are also eligible.

3)Candidates who have passed B.Sc. (Bachelor of Science) exam with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and who have cleared 10+2 Higher Secondary Exam with PCB are also eligible.

Admission Procedure

MBBS/BDS Course -

Marks obtained in Maths are not considered for admission into the MBBS course.

Please note that in a non-governmental institutes, 50% of the seats will be filled by management of the institute. Academic merit should be considered while granting admission under management quota. Rest 50% seats will be filled by competent authority based on the academic merit of the candidate.

Academic merit of a candidate will be determined based on the performance in competitive exam conducted by the state governemnt or competent authority or centralized competitive exam conducted at the national level.

Candidate must score at least 50% marks in the competitive exam. For SC/ST/OBC candidates the minimum percentage required is 40%.

For post-graduation courses, performance in first, second and MBBS exam can be considered to determine the academic eligibility of the candidate.
