The PSGR Krishnammal College for Women was established on 28th June 1963, by Sri.G.R.Govindarajulu andSmt.G.Chandrakanthi. It was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, Sri.Bakthavatchalam. It caters to the needs of women in higher education. The College is autonomous, ISO 9001:2008 certified and Re-accredited with A GRADE by NAAC (National Accreditation and Assessment Council).

Established in 1963, PSGRKCW is today a centre of excellence for higher learning for women at graduate, post graduate and doctoral levels. The college has been a front-runner amongst the colleges of Bharathiar University since inception, securing maximum number of ranks in academics. In sports too, the college has excelled at the state and national levels.

PSGRKCW is an autonomous institution, affiliated to Bharathiar University with ISO 9001:2008 certification.It is reaccredited by NAAC with CGPA of 3.58 on a four point scale(3rd cycle).Received “College with Potential for Excellence” status from UGC in 2011 and obtained DST-FIST recognition under ‘College as a whole’ scheme. All science departments are included under the star-college scheme by DBT. PSGRKCW offers 26 UG, 13 PG, three PG Diploma and three Certificate programmes & MPhil and PhD in 11 disciplines. New skill oriented UGC sponsored B.Voc degree programmes and Community College with multiple exits such as Diploma / Advanced Diploma introduced in 2014-15 ensure the development of skilled personnel.
