Government Dental College & Hospital, Nagpur Nagpur

The Government Dental College & Hospital, Nagpur (GDCHN) began operations in 1968-69 and Government of Maharashtra established it. Institute is located within Government Medical College campus in Nagpur.

GDCHN operates as a government institute. It has recognition from Directorate of Medical Education & Research Medical Education & Drug Department and Dental Council of India. Initially affiliated to Nagpur University it has been affiliated with the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences since 1998.

The institute offers Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) programs. The BDS course is the primary offering. MDS course includes specializations in Conservative Dentistry, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Medicine and Radiology, Oral Pathology and Microbiology, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics, Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Periodontics and Prosthodontics.

More than 2000 dental graduates have completed their studies at GDCHN. The BDS intake capacity increased to 63 in 2019. Student to faculty ratio is about 40-60.

GDCHN initiated its MDS postgraduate program in 2009 offering all specialties. It introduced a PhD program in 2014 and a fellowship program in 2017.

The institute has well-furnished classrooms, medical infrastructure, sports grounds, a library and different facilities like an auditorium, IT infrastructure, cafeteria, gymnasium and departmental laboratories.

Admissions for BDS and MDS are based on NEET-UG and NEET-MDS scores respectively. The college is approved by the Dental Council of India and holds a Grade A+ accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.

In rankings GDCHN received a #10 placement in 'Dental' category by India Today in 2023.
