L. D. Arts College, Ahmedabad was established in 1937 with a view to inculcate the spirit of Indian culture and academics in students at a time when receiving a British education were stressed upon. It is a premier Arts College of Gujarat managed by the Ahmedabad Education Society and is one of the first grant-in-aid colleges in the city. It offers 10 major and four subsidiary subjects to undergraduates. It offers seven postgraduate subjects. Besides this, the college also houses the largest IGNOU centre in the city. The college has been a centre where education, culture, discipline and safety go together.

Committees, cells and events: College students are widely encouraged for inter-college, state and national level sport competitions. NSS and NCC wings are available for boys and girls to participate actively. CWDC is Collegiate Women’s Development Committee mainly created to get rid of gender discrimination and welfare of women in the state. Female students participate in rally and meetings for awareness against gender justice. Placement cell is another unit takes care of student placements and 20 students placed in 2013-14 academic year.
