Newman College is a minority Christian institution governed and managed by the Syrian Catholic Diocese of Kothamangalam, specially founded to cater to the needs of the community without any discrimination against other social segments. Established in 1964, the college is named after John Henry Cardinal Newman, one of the greatest luminaries of all times in the field of higher education. Nationally reaccredited at ‘A’ grade by the NAAC in 2007, the college has all along identified three key areas as its mission:

  • social concern

The college seeks to serve certain important social ideals. Theseinclude the inculcation of spiritual and moral values in students and imparting training in socially productive sectors intended to mould them as socially useful citizens. The values which guide us at Newman College are:

Realising the great necessity of a central institution of higher studies for the thousands of students stepping each year out of the numerous high schools in Thodupuzha area. His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. Mathew Pothanamuzhy, the then Bishop of Kothamangalam decided to establish a college at Thodupuzha. Newman College is the leading college in the Idukki District, with 7 post graduate courses, 12 graduate courses, 2 doctrol programmes and 2 diploma courses under community college.The career oriented certificate / Diploma programmes run parallel to the conventional B.A.,B.Com. and B.Sc Courses. Newman College offers various Add - on Programmes which includes:
