Indira Gandhi Government Engineering College was established in 1981 in Sagar. The college endeavors to become one of the major institution in Engineering Educationthrough imparting superior quality of education as well as creating excellent climate for production of highly competitive as well as skilled individuals. This Institute commits itself to the pursuit of excellence through dissemination of knowledge, development of skills and imbibing values that improve professional conduct.

Sagar city has its own unique significance in the field of education foe last Many decades. M.P. first university i.e. Dr. H. S. Gour University (old name Sagar University) is situated in Sagar. For the industrial development of Bundelkhand Region keeping view mind government established EngineeringCollege in November 1981 Lasted this institute has been named Indira Gandhi EngineeringCollege in the year 1985.Since Nov ember 1981 College started with intake of 40 students. In the year 1983 the intake of students capacity had increased from 40 to 80.

This College had affiliation withSagar University since its establishment and 2000 onwards. It is now affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi Technological University Bhopal M.P. And it is All India Council for Technical Education (A I C T E) approved.

Initially in the year 1981 the institute was started in the Education college of the University. Since December 1986 this institute started in the newly constructed building of Technical School. Subsequently in year 1985 Government of M.P. allotted220 Acres of land near Baheria village just 10 km. away from Sagar city. where the following construction work has been completed.
