Jorhat Engineering College is a private technology college established in 1959. It is the 2^nd government engineering college of Assam. It has been approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE).

The institute offers courses in Engineering, Humanities and Science stream. It also offers post graduate courses. Some of the courses provided by the institute are as follows:

• Civil Engineering
• Mechanical Engineering
• Electrical Engineering
• Computer Science and Engineering
• Instrumentation Engineering

Admission to the institute solely depends on merit, as per the state level examinations. The institute offers facilities such as a well-stocked library, medical facilities, transport facilities and hostel facilities for both boys and girls.

It has eight hostels for boys and two hostels for girls. Each hostel is well equipped with internet facilities and a library.

The college has an e-Learning program which is equipped with resources such as JEC Lecture Series, NPTEL, E-Thesis, etc. The institution has also tied up with Board of Practical Training for providing internships to students.

Cutoff and Placements

Jorhat Engineering College

has a Training & Placement cell which organises Industrial Training programme every year for the pre-final year students immediately after the 6^th semester examinations. This programme goes on for 30 days.

Campus interviews are conducted in the college campus. Students are also sent for field training in organizations such as PWD (Assam), NEEPCO, Indian Railway, HCL, ONGC, ASEB, IOCL, NRL, BRPL, BCPL, BSNL, IBM, BVCL, ASTC, etc. Students are also sent to NEIST, IIT, etc. for laboratory exposure.

The recruitment percentage of 2011 batch was 94.1% and 67.82% for 2012 batch.

Application and Admission Procedure

How to apply

JEC has two entry schemes for admission in B.E programme, via CEE (Common Entrance Exam) and Lateral Entry. Students can apply by both online and offline modes.

Procedure for both is as following:

1. Offline Mode:- Candidate can refer to the Assam Gazette for the application form and follow the instructions as per given.
2. Online Mode:- To apply online candidate can check the official website of JEC :- www.jecassam.ac.in

Note:- Application procedure for CEE and Lateral Entry starts in the month of March/April and May respectively.

Top 10 ranked candidates (Science stream) in the state get direct admission without appearing for CEE, implying that they should have scored more than 75% aggregate.

There are seats reserved for the children and grandchildren of Freedom Fighters, ex-defense personnel, Sc/St/OBC and fw other classes.

Admission Procedure

Entrance examination is held in the month of may. Questions are based on Multiple Choice.

Students have to pass the entrance examination with at least 50% aggregate (General Category), 45% (Scheduled Castes), and 40% (Scheduled Tribe).

The selection is based on merit list of the marks scored by candidates in Common Entrance Exam (CEE). The other reserved categories are selected on the basis of quota.

Hostel and Facilities

Hostel:

There are total 10 hostels among which 8 are meant for boys students and 2 are for girls’ students. Each hostel has its own mess along with kitchen and dining hall. Apart from that, each hostel has the common room, recreation room, reading room and gym facilities too.

Other Facilities:

The College is situated in Jorhat, Assam. Its campus covers around 200 acres of land. The whole campus has the internet connection.

This college provides its own bus services to its students and staffs. Apart from that, it has separate department-wise labs like Math lab, Computer lab etc.

Student Clubs: There are lots of students clubs and societies such as Literary Bout,Avant Grade, Photography club etc. The students of this college organize several cultural and technical events like fashion show, robotics etc. "PHEONIX" is their main cultural event.
