Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College (JGEC) was established on 7th August 1961. It is located near the national highway 31-D of Jalpaiguri in the state of West Bengal, India.
It is a public/government autonomous type of Institute.
The college was granted complete autonomy in 2012 by the University Grant Commission, India.
The college is divided into different departments which are-

Admission is done through counselling and is based on the ranks obtained by the candidate in West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE).

Candidates must have passed 10+2 with a minimum of 60% marks with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics as major subjects. Candidates must have secured at least 50% marks in English in 10+2. |
Candidates are selected on the basis of merit scored in WBJEE. |
B.Tech (Lateral Entry) |
Candidates must have a Diploma in Engineering or have done B.Sc. |
Candidates are selected on the basis of merit scored in JELET. |
M.Tech |
Candidates must have graduated in any Science discipline or Engineering with a minimum of 55% marks. |
Candidates are selected on the basis of merit scored in GATE. |
Hostel and Facilities
HOSTEL
There are 4 boys’ hostel and 1 girls’ hostel in JGEC. The hostels are having spacious and clean rooms and basic amenities like beds, cupboards, study table, chair, washrooms, common area, recreation area etc. There are aqua guards installed in each and every floor so that students get clean and fresh water. The rooms are allocated on the basis of multi sharing.
For food there is a mess present in all the hostels serving vegetarian and non vegetarian food. Canteens are also there in the hostels. The fee of hostel for one semester is Rs 12,000 including food. WI-FI facility is not provided inside the hostels.
