The campus covers an area of 399.9 acres. It has 27 Post-Graduate Departments offering studies in many disciplines like Science, Humanities, Business Administration, Social Science, Law and Commerce. The university is the largest affiliating university in India with 267 affiliated general colleges.
Utkal University provides facilities like separate hostels for boys and girls, two gyms, a cafeteria, an auditorium and science laboratories.
The university accepts scores from many entrance examinations for admissions. These include OJEE, CAT, MAT, CPET, UGC-CSIR-NET, GATE, SLET, ICPR, ICSSR and ICHR. It is not confirmed if Utkal University has its own entrance test.
Utkal University holds recognition from the UGC. It reaccredited by NAAC with an A+ Grade in December 2017. In terms of rankings Utkal University was placed 151st out of 200 colleges in 2023 by NIRF. It ranked 88th among universities by NIRF in 2022.
