Malnad College of Engineering was founded in 1960 during India’s second five-year plan and is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University Belgaum.
It is an autonomous institute and is recognized by AICTE and UGC and has been awarded the ISTE award for one of the best engineering colleges in India in 2007. The college also conducts the World Bank sponsored TEQIP program.

Entry to these courses depends upon the scores in the B. Tech qualifying examination and also the GATE scores.

Hostel facilities
The hostel is ragging free and has an extensive security network for the welfare of the students. There are internet browsing centres which are provided to the hostelers.
The boys hostel was established in the year 1961 and it caters to the needs of the students in the best possible ways. Various facilities include-

- The water supply and the hot water bath facilities are also available for the students
- The hygienic food along with aqua guard water is the safest thing for the students. There are two TV rooms inside the hostel and a place to play some indoor games is also available.
The ladies hostel is located outside the college campus and was established in the year 1990. It is a 4 storeyed building which accommodates around 250 students. The good boarding and the lodging facilities are also provided to the students along with the bus services from the hostel to the college and vice versa.

Remarks
All can I tell is that all the years of my college have been one of the most beautiful time of my life. There has been a mix of both good and bad memories, but I am glad as the bad one have also taught me to be the best version of myself. Coming to academic it has been good and all the necessary facilities are provided by the college. I have learned so much here which i dont think i would have learned anywhere else or other college.
Entrance Exam
I got admission into this college based on my jee mains scores. I score good marks and appied to this college as the faculty and the placement of this college is great. I think i made the right decison as i had the option for other colleges but i chose this.
Fees
Over 90% of the students in batch got placed. A lot of companies come for the placement and choose the suitable candidates. Most of my seniors got placed in top companies like TCS, IMB, Infosys, genpact. The college keeps on increasing the placement number year on year. The average package is around 3 to 5 lakhs.
Placements
For hostel student needs to pay a decent amount which i beleive is worth the facilities provided by the college., The rooms are provided on sharing basis with 3-4 people in one room. The rooms is not that big but has the basis minimum facilities of bed, bedding, locker etc. The food of the hostel is decent though it can be improved.
Hostel and Facilities
Yes there is hostel by the college. There is diversity in the hostel and of us lived like one big family and share everything from our issues to our happiness. The facilities provided are also good if compared to the fee charged by them. Also, you should know that there is no ragging in the hostel so you are free.
Alumni
The college has an alumni association which regularly invites pass outs to interact with ongoing batch. The seniors of the college are great. There is no ragging on the campus or in the hostels.
Faculty
They provide us with the theoretical as well as practical knowledge. They are very learned and also have vast knowledge about their subjects. They take extra class and regular tests for the betterment and improvements of the students.
Campus Life
The environment of the college is very enlighting and fun loving. SAtudents from across different states can be found here and there is no discrimination on any basis. The gender ratio is almost the same. The college organizes various events to provide the student a stressfree environment like fests like cultural, management, technical and other celebrations like independence day and festival celebration.
Academics
The exam season in the college is pretty cool with students getting enough breaks in btw the exam. The labs are well maintained to lab exams are easy and fun. The student should maintain his or her attendance.
Internships
For the UG program there is no internship but during PG you have to do the internship. Some stipend I also provided to them. Though i also have been told that the istuation has changed now but i dont how much of it is true and how much of it is false.
Loans and Scholarships
The college has tie ups with banks and from there you can get student loan/education loan which they have to repay once they get a job. They also provide scholarships to meritorious students.
