Malnad College of Engineering was founded in 1960 during India’s second five-year plan and is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University Belgaum.

It is an autonomous institute and is recognized by AICTE and UGC and has been awarded the ISTE award for one of the best engineering colleges in India in 2007. The college also conducts the World Bank sponsored TEQIP program.

The college offers B. Tech courses in-

• Electrical and electronics engineering
• Mechanical engineering
• Industrial & production engineering
• Instrumentation technology
• Information science& engineering.

Admission to these courses is based on the CET entrance examination score.

M. Tech courses are offered in-

• Computer applications in industrial drives
• Computer-aided design of structures
• Industrial Automation and Robotics
• Part-time M. Tech in computer science and engineering

Entry to these courses depends upon the scores in the B. Tech qualifying examination and also the GATE scores.

The college also offers an MCA program.

The college is equipped with the following facilities- Hostels for both boys and girls, library, language laboratory, Students’ affairs cell, anti-ragging cell and college clubs.

Hostel facilities

The hostel is ragging free and has an extensive security network for the welfare of the students. There are internet browsing centres which are provided to the hostelers.

The boys hostel was established in the year 1961 and it caters to the needs of the students in the best possible ways. Various facilities include-

• Bath and Water
• Closets
• Ceiling fans
• The water supply and the hot water bath facilities are also available for the students
• The hygienic food along with aqua guard water is the safest thing for the students. There are two TV rooms inside the hostel and a place to play some indoor games is also available.

The ladies hostel is located outside the college campus and was established in the year 1990. It is a 4 storeyed building which accommodates around 250 students. The good boarding and the lodging facilities are also provided to the students along with the bus services from the hostel to the college and vice versa.
