Vidyasagar University was founded in the year 1981 under the Act of the West Bengal legislature.

It is an affiliating university in District of South Mednipur, situated at the southern side of the state West Bengal.

The university offers regular as well as Distance courses in various subjects.  

The university has total 29 departments, divided into-

• Science
• Arts and Commerce

Faculty of Science has several departments; few of them are Remote Sensing, Electronics, Computer Programming, Biomedical Laboratory Science and Technology etc.

Faculty of Arts has Bengali, Philosophy, Sanskrit and many other departments.

MBA and the department of Commerce are under the Faculty of Commerce.

The University has 4 hostels.

Application and Admission Procedure

How to Apply:

Candidates need to visit the official website of the University and register themselves. Once that has been done candidates can go ahead and fill the online application form. Upon filling the form candidates need to pay an application fee of INR 150 via online mode.

For post graduate courses candidates need to send the printed version of the Application Form, self-attested photocopies of all testimonials to the Secretary, Faculty Councils for Post Graduate Studies on or before the last date of submission mentioned in the Admission Notification by post or courier.

Admission Procedure

The admission procedure varies across courses and programmes. For undergraduate courses it is on the basis of merit. For M.C.A and M.Sc, it is on the basis of entrance exam conducted by the University, same goes for Ph.D. For MBA it is on the basis of the marks scored by the candidate in CAT OR MAT.

Hostel and Facilities

Hostel facilities:

• There are separate accommodation facilities for boys and girls
• There are 4 hostels- 2 for girls and 2 for boys
• Total 600 students (300 in Girls’ Hostel and 300 in Boys’ Hostel) can be accommodated in these hostels
• Hostel accommodation is provided to the selected students depending on the distance between their place of residence and Vidyasagar University. Preference is given to the students coming from other State or remote places
• Hostels are provided with facilities of playing Badminton and indoor games like Carrom, Chess and Ludo etc.
• Television with Digital TV connection and telephone are provided in the common rooms of the Hostels
• Computers with internet facility

Other Facilities:

• The University is spread over a total area of 182 acres
• A superior medical facility in the campus with one doctor, two medical assistants, one lady assistants, one 24×7 ambulance, First aid, ECG facilities, and Ultrasound etc facilities to be started soon.
