Rabindra Bharati University was established in 1962 by Government of West Bengal. It is a public university located at Jorasanko Thakur Bari. The university offers under graduate and post graduate courses in Arts. The university offers specialized courses in Visual Arts, Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Social Science, and Humanities.
The university is popular for its arts programs and its Tagore legacy. The university also has a campus at Salt Lake and besides that it offers various distance education programs too. The university is accredited by NAAC.

Application and Admission Procedure
How to Apply
Candidates need to visit the official website of the University and create a unique login id. Once that has been done candidates need to login and fill up the admission form which includes personal and educational details. They also need to upload their scanned picture and signature to complete the application process.
Once this is done, the application fee has to be paid via credit/debit or net banking. The application fee can also be paid through downloading the SBI challan available at the official website. The application fee is INR 250 for BA (Hons.)/ BFA/ MA/ MFA B.Li.Sc/M.Li. Sc and it is INR 300 for M.Phil & Ph.D.

The admission process varies across programmes. For some courses it is on the basis of the marks scored in the last qualifying exam and for some it is on the basis of admission test.
Hostel and Facilities
Named after the legendary poet, Rabindranath Tagore and established to mark his birth centenary, the campus has 2 hostels for boys and 3 for girls with a capacity of more than 200 for the students coming from different states.
It has 2 subsidised canteens on both the campuses and a separate canteen for staff. Round the clock medical services are provided to the students, teachers and non-teaching staff by the medical unit. The University has a guest house that provides accommodation to the guests and foreign ICCR scholarship holders.
The University has a central library and departmental libraries attached with the academic branches. The central library has a collection of 120500 books, 2550 bound volume journals, theses, conference proceedings, reports and many rare books, e-journals, e-resources.
A prominent Student grievance cell and anti-ragging cell under the charge of the Dean Student Welfare are in function in the university.
