Kakatiya University is a public university located in Hanamkonda. It was established in 1968.

It offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in many fields, including arts, science, commerce, business management, social sciences, education, engineering and pharmaceutical sciences.

The university includes 11 constituent colleges and has 28 departments. Enrollment for undergraduate programs was about 90,000 and for postgraduate programs it was approximately 8,000 during the 2011-2012 academic year. It employs 248 faculty members and has 622 non-teaching staff.

Kakatiya University provides different facilities, including hostels, libraries, sports amenities, medical services and laboratories. Banking and ATM services are also available for students and staff.

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council of India awarded the university an "A+" grade in June 2023. It is recognized by the University Grants Commission and is approved by the Bar Council of India, Pharmacy Council of India, National Board of Accreditation and National Council for Teacher Education.

In terms of rankings Kakatiya University falls in II-Band (101-150) in overall category and III-Band in Institutions category per National Institutional Ranking Framework in 2018. It ranks 159th in India and 4035th globally as of 2024. University has engaged in international collaborations like organizing a conference on plant biotechnology with Aberystwyth University.
