Michael Madhusudan Memorial College, Durgapur was established in 1996. The college is named after Michael Madhusudan Memorial Dutta, the premier poet of Bengali. The College is affiliated to the University of Burdwan, an exalted place amongst the universities of West Bengal. The UGC also advised to open a new college with the objectives to impart teaching in non-traditional subjects. The college aims at unfolding to the fullest, the potentialities of the students. College is motivated by the vision to produce good citizens, developed fully both in brain and brawn.

This college has been catering to the needs of higher education in the steel city. Eminent educationists in and around the vicinity of Durgapur, the Chairman, ADDA, the Mayor, Durgapur Municipal Corporation, MLA and MP, Durgapur and the industrial house have made notable contribution to set up the college and put it upon sound footing. e College offers a wide spectrum of courses.

The college offers a wide spectrum of courses like Honours in Bengali, English, Geography, History, Philosophy and Education in Arts, Accountancy in Commerce, Computer Science, Microbiology, Mathematics and Physics in Science, Professional course like BCA, BBA equip the students to face the present day world professionalism and confidently. Apart from the academic aspects, the college endeavors to sensitize the students to the condition of the country and its problems through various cultural programs.
