Sree Narayana College, Kollam Is One Of The Earliest And The Greatest Centres Of Higher Education In The Whole State Of Kerala. Affiliated To The University Of Kerala, The College Is Managed By The Sree Narayana Trusts, Kollam. Bearing In Letter And Spirit The Name Of Sree Narayana Guru (1854-1928), The Great Saint-Philosopher, Social Reformer And Mystic Poet, The College Was Started In 1948 By S.N.D.P. Yogam And Its Able And Inspiring Leader R. Sankar (1909-1972) With 505 Students At The Intermediate Level. Next Year It Was Upgraded To A Degree College And In 1957 It Attained Membership In The Prestigious Club Of Postgraduate Colleges. Today The College Offers 17 Undergraduate And 14 Postgraduate Courses. Eight Of The Postgraduate Departments Are Approved Research Centres As Well.

The Institution Further Provides Facilities (Both Infrastructure And Faculty) For Conducting Contact Classes Of The Correspondence Courses Under The University Of Kerala And Counselling Of IGNOU Study Programmes Coordinated By The IGNOU Study Centre.

Since Its Inception In 1948, Sree Narayana College, Kollam Has Not Only Spearheaded The Uplift Of The Socially And Educationally Backward Sections Of Our Society But Has Also Created A Glorious History Of Outstanding Academic Activities, Thus Making Itself The Leader Of The Institutions Of Higher Education In The State.

The College Aims At Achieving The High Ideals Of Sree Narayana Guru Who Exhorted Us To ‘Strive For The Welfare Of All Without Any Discrimination On The Basis Of Caste, Creed Or Religion’. The Guru Was A Karmayogi Who Transformed The Idealistic Advaitha Of His Predecessors To A Practical Humanistic One By Giving An Ethical And Social Context To It. Imbibing The Teachings Of The Great Guru Such As “One Caste, One Religion, One God For Man”, “Liberate Oneself Through Education”, “Humanness Marks Humanity”, Our College Strives To Mould Generations In Order To Free Them From Casteism, Bigotry, Sectarianism And Exploitation. We Consider Education An Instrument Of Socio-Economic Progress, Political Development And Moral, Social And Intellectual Awakening In Each Student.

• Facilities: The library containsabout 98,000 books which include reference books, treatises, textbooks, fiction, and back volumes of periodicals. The library subscribes to 35 periodicals, 60 journals and 9 newspapers. The college runs a computer centre with the objective of providing computer education offering short term courses for teachers and students of the college at affordable rates. It holds workshops and seminars on IT topics. College offers unique facilities for research scholars. The college also has developed superior research facilities which are better than those available in most research centres. Strategic collaborations with national as well as international universities and laboratories have helped the research section to Excel a lot. At present eight of the postgraduate departments are approved as research centres.There is an Indira Gandhi National Open University Study Centre on the campus that offers facilities to the students to undergo various study programmes in Engineering, Library and Information Science, Computer Science, M.A English, Food and Nutrition, Tourism etc.
