Ananda Chandra College of Commerce is situated in the heart of the Jalpaiguri Town on the D.B.C. Road, did not start its journey from the same premises from its very beginning. An evening Commerce Section of Ananda Chandra College was opened with only 54 students in the B. Com. As Sonaulla School could not provide accommodation for more than one class room, the evening section was shifted to Ananda Chandra College in 1963. The number of students went up steadily. As such the necessity of a separate college building was seriously felt in all respects. Prof. Bhowmick with the help of other faculty members and well-wishers took the initiative and purchased the present main building in 1969 exclusively out of the surplus of tuition fees collected from the students. On acquisition of the separate building of its own at D.B.C Road the University of North Bengal granted affiliation on 9th September 1969 under the name of Ananda Chandra College of Commerce.
The college, under the stewardship of Nares Chandra Bhowmick as its first full fledged Principal heralded the new era on and 1st January, 1970. Evening section was continued to accommodate heavy rush of the students and also to those who are employed or otherwise engaged during daytime. In this way Ananda Chandra College of Commerce became the only institution of North Bengal with a separate building of its own devoted in spreading the education in Commerce over a vast area of Dooars as well as the neighboring districts and states.
