Assam Engineering College is the first engineering college in the north-eastern part of India, was established in the year 1955. It is situated at Jalukbari in the south-west part of Guwahati, which is a landmark in the colourful and chequered history of Assam.Encircled by the Gauhati University on the north, the Deepor Beel on the south, the Government Ayurvedic College on the east and the Assam Police Radio Organisation on the west, Assam Engineering College not only provides an ideal context for learning but also creates a charming impingement on visitors. The University campus is spread across 400 acres of land. The college started with the Civil Engineering department, and within a few years other engineering departments were started. Presently, it awards Bachelor in Engineering degrees in eight different engineering disciplines, Master in Engineering degrees in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and Master in Computer Application degree. The University also offers Ph.D programs under all departments.
