Established in the year 2010 under the auspices of Shri Sode Vadiraja Mutt Education Trust®, Udupi,Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology & Management (SMVITM) has emerged as ‘A PromisingInstitution with a Distinction’. It is located in a picturesque village called Vishwothama Nagar in Bantakal,near the world famous temple town, Udupi. The institute campus is on the Katapady – Belman road,about 6 km off NH 66, 12 km away from Udupi town and well connected to Kundapura, Karkala andMangalore by road. H. H. Shri Vishwavallabha Theertha Swamiji of Shri Sode Vadiraja Mutt, Udupiand the President of the Trust, at a very young age, has promoted SMVITM to provide quality highereducation to the needy student community at affordable costs.

Started with only 60 in-take in four engineering disciplines, todaySMVITM offers undergraduate coursesleading to Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics &Communication Engineering and Computer Science & Engineeringwith a total student in-take of 441 peryear. The institute is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, approved by All IndiaCouncil for Technical Education, New Delhi and recognized by the Government of Karnataka. With itswell qualified and motivated faculty, state-of-the-art infrastructure and distinguished learning-centricfacilities, SMVITM has already built its reputation in the field of technical education.

Though the institution is very young, its accomplishments are commendable. Having admired the visionand value addition to engineering education at the institute, theFormer President of India, BharatRatna Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam made a visit to SMVITM campus on 02 April 2014 and interacted with thestudents on the topic “Empowering the Nation through Technology and Innovation”.The renownedmulti national company, SAP Labs Pvt. Ltd. has recognized SMVITM as its academic partner. IT FacilityAgreement with premier IT company, TCS; research work and execution of externally funded projectsin basic sciences; proposed establishment of an R&D Centre in Mechanical Engg.; Modern Testing& Consultancy Cell in Civil Engg.; Conduct of national level conferences and ISTE sponsored facultydevelopment programs; KSCST & VGST (TRIP) sponsored student project works; Innovation Lab. In theElectronics& Communication Engineering Department; representation of the college in internationalforums by the faculty; outstanding performance in curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activitiesby the students etc. are some of the major achievements SMVITM has been able to make in the shortspan of time since its inception.

TCS, HP, IBM, Cognizant, HCL, Infosys, Tata Marcopolo Motors, Reliance Energy, Property Infratech, NileStream, Diya Systems, Titan, Toyota Kirloskar, SAP Labs, Kennametal, Reliance Cement, Suzlon, ManipalTechnologies, Mandovi Motors and many such reputed companies are supporting the institutionthrough Training & Placement of the students.In order to turn the mission of the management into areality and achieve the stated objectives of the Institute, attractive Merit-cum-Means scholarships areawarded to the top performing students to get them admitted to the Institute. Many other charitabletrusts and industrialists also provide scholarships to the deserving students, supporting their education.

The institute library has a treasure trove of books, newspapers, magazines, journals and e-journals aswell as multimedia laboratory and e-learning centers. All laboratories and workshops are equippedwith the most modern and sophisticated instruments, machinery and equipment, fulfilling the questfor practical knowledge of the students. College Bus facility to daily commuters, ergonomically builtseparate hostels for boys and girls with all modern facilities along with a nutritious vegetarian canteen,are also available for the students.

NSS, Youth Red Cross and Rotaract Club activities are promoted in association with local NGOs to reachout to the local community, which in turn promotes leadership and citizenship qualities among students.The active Training and Placement Department along with Entrepreneurship Development Cell organizesseveral programs like training the students to face campus recruitment tests and interviews throughregular soft skill/communication skill development programs, Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps andhelping the desired students to productize/commercialize their creative ideas.
