National Engineering College Thoothukudi

The National Engineering College (NEC) is located in Kovilpatti, Tamil Nadu. It is an autonomous institute affiliated with Anna University, Chennai. NEC was established in 1984. It is an un-aided private institute.

NEC offers 7 undergraduate and 5 postgraduate degree programs in Engineering and Technology. Undergraduate courses include Computer Science Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering and Information Technology. Postgraduate programs offered are in Computer Science Engineering, Energy Engineering, High Voltage Engineering, Embedded Systems Technologies and Information Technology.

The student population exceeds 2200 and the faculty strength is more than 170. 

Facilities include different centers of excellence, laboratories, a library, a gym, a cafeteria, separate hostels for boys and girls, a Business Incubator cell and an ED cell.

Admission to B.Tech programs relies on TNEA Counseling conducted by Anna University. For M.Tech programs NEC accepts TANCET or GATE scores. The college is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and approved by the AICTE. Also, it has a 'B++' grade from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

NEC ranks 169th among engineering colleges in India according to the 2022 NIRF rankings.
