Periyar Maniammai Institute of Science and Technology is a private university headquartered in Thanjavur District, Tamil Nadu. Formerly known as Periyar Maniammai College of Technology for Women, it is considered to be the world’s first women’s engineering college.
Established in the year 1988 with the approval of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the college was first affiliated to Bharathidasan University and later to Anna University since 2001.
Since August 17, 2007, it has been functioning as a deemed-to-be-university with approval from UGC and the Ministry of Human Resources.
The college was founded by Periyar Maniammai Educational and Charitable Society, Chennai, with the motto "Think Innovate and Transform." The main campus, based in Vallam, is around 90,000 sq. m, while the Chennai branch is around 13,000 sq. m. The university consists of 4 faculties and 22 departments. Following are the four faculties:
- Faculty of Architect and Planning (FAP).
- Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering (FCSE).
- Faculty of Humanities Science and Management (FHSM).
- Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET).
The institute has campuses across Chennai, Vallam, Thanjavur, Thiruchirapalli, and New Delhi, and is accredited by AICTE and NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council).

How to apply?
The university offers many courses for admission in UG and PG programs. For Bachelor’s courses candidates must have passed 10+2 with 50% of marks in equivalent subjects. Eligible candidates can download the pdf of application form from the website of the university or collect directly from the university’s office. Fill the form and attach all the important documents that are mentioned below-

- Diploma Mark Sheet (Lateral Entry Admission)
- NATA Score Card (Admission IN B.Arch.)
- Certificate of medical fitness

Lastly submit the form by sending it to the university with the of challan of INR 750(general category) and IINR 500 (reserved category)
The university grants admission in architecture courses through aptitude test conducted by the council. And admissions in other courses are done directly on the basis of merit.
Hostel and Facilities
The university is spread over 216 acres of land.
The university is equipped with gift parlor, community radio, proper gym for both girls and boys and has sports complex, transportation system, library, labs, bank facilities, canteen, post office, mess, medical center and WIFI connectivity.
The university also has one business incubator and biometric based attendance automation too.
The university provides 3 hostels for women with 2000 students capacity each and one hostel for men with 600 students capacity.
The hostels have DTH connection for internet and television facilities, dining hall, purified drinking water, solar water heating system, library and computer centers.
The students can have staff tutors to improve their academics and ‘Earn while learn’ scheme is there to help students in need of financial aid.
The university has total of 32 clubs and societies which organizes different events for the student’s development.
There are NCC, NSS, YRC, RRC and many society oriented students activities too.
