Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy (SASTRA) is a deemed university situated in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. It was established in 1984 as Shanmugha College of Engineering which was later given university status. It offers programs in science, technology, education and arts streams.
The admission process for various courses is through national entrance tests like CAT, GATE And JEE. The university was ranked in top 400 universities by QS Asia in 2018 and its engineering program was ranked in top 25 by NIRF 2017 survey. It was rated A by NAAC. The university is spread over an area of 232 acres and has 13000 students and 700 teachers.
The university has well stocked library. It offers hostel accommodation to more than 6000 students.
The admission to its flagship Btech course is through JEE (70% seats) and 10+2 marks (30% seats). The candidates will get SASTRA rank and admission will be based on this rank.

How to Apply
Candidates can apply both via online and offline mode.
For online mode students need to visit the official site of the University. After that they need to fill the application form and submit the application fee of INR 650 via online mode.
For offline, candidates need to download and print the form. Candidates need to fill in the form and include a demand draft worth INR 650 the application fee and send it to the University.
The Admissions into Sastra University for most of the UG and PG programmes is done on the basis of the marks obtained by the candidate in qualifying degree examination.
In case of B.Tech, M.Tech and Law courses, scores obtained in national level examinations such as JEE Mains, GATE and CLAT respectively, are also considered taken into consideration. Selected candidates are called to the University and seats are guaranteed on the payment of fees and verification of documents.
Hostel and Facilities
Shanmugha Arts Science Technology caters the needs of the students and provides excellent hostels to both girls and boys. There are 7 hostels for boys and five hostels for the girls. The hostel fee is around 44,000 INR per annum including all the expenses. The rooms available in the hostels are on sharing basis. Generally, two- three students share one room.
The mess is quite descent, it caters the needs of both north Indian and south Indian students. The mess bill is around 3500-4000 INR per month. But the college mess serves only vegetarian food, for the non vegetarian food students have to eat outside the campus. The hostels have tight security and provide all the services like gym, laundry and 24 hours Wi-Fi services.
The college has a central library for the students which consist of all type of textbooks and references. There is material available to study for competitive exams as well.

1) 3 year Law Degree Course - A candidate who has graduated in any discipline from a recognized University can appear for L.L.B. course
2) Integrated Degree Program - Candidate must have passed 10+2 Higher Secondary Exam or an exam cosidered to be equivalnt to 10+2 Higher Secondary Exam can enrol for integrated degree program (LLB and a first degree in any other subject).
Candidates who have obtained 10+2 Higher secondary exam certificate or a graduate degree after taking up other courses through distance mode are also considered eligible for integrated degree course. But those candidates who have obtained 10+2 Higher secondary exam certificate or a graduate degree through distance mode or from open universities without any basic qualification are not eligible for admission into law courses.
Minimum marks for admission into law courses -
1) 40% for SC/ST candidates
2) 45% for other candidates
