Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy (SASTRA) is a private deemed university in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. It was established in 1984 and was originally named Shanmugha College of Engineering. University became known as SASTRA in 2001. The campus covers 232 acres and has a total built area of about 195,000 square meters. Hostels quarters and guest houses occupy approximately 85,000 square meters.

SASTRA provides 119 courses across 10 streams. It offers diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs. Some of courses include B.Tech., B.Com., B.B.A., M.Tech., M.B.A. and PhD The university has more than 10,000 students and over 700 faculty members.

Admission to B.Tech courses requires scores from JEE Mains and CLAT for Law programs. M.Tech and MBA admissions use GATE and CAT/XAT/AIMAT/CMAT/AIMCAT tests.

SASTRA is re-accredited with an 'A++' grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). In 2023, it was ranked 34th among engineering colleges in India by National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).

The university provides many sports facilities, including cricket fields, basketball courts and football grounds.

In 2011 Tata Consultancy Services recruited 1,755 students from SASTRA marking largest recruitment from a single campus.
