Madurai Kamaraj University is a state public university located in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. It was established in 1965.

University comprises 20 schools and 77 departments. It offers a diverse range of courses, including 44 postgraduate programs, 40 MPhil programs, 57 PhD programs and 17 diploma or certificate courses.

Currently there are approximately 4,700 undergraduate and postgraduate students along with research scholars enrolled into the university. The academic staff includes 212 faculty members.

The university features many facilities, including an auditorium, bank, canteen, central instrumentation center, health care center and hostels.

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accredited the university with an 'A++' grade in its fourth cycle. The university is recognized and funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC). According to National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), it ranked 94th overall in India in 2023 and ranked between 261-270 in QS Asia ranking.
