Veterinary College And Research Institute (VCRI) Namakkal

In order to augment the human resources and for the betterment of poultry farmers, a second veterinary college at Namakkal was started on 14.06.1985 as a constituent college of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. It later became a constituent unit of India's first veterinary varsity, the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University on 20.09.1989. For the initial five years (1985-1990), the college utilized the classrooms of Government Higher Secondary School, Namakkal with the staff strength of Dean, 2 Associate Professors, 16 Assistant Professors and 16 supporting staff. At present, 27 departments with 102 teaching and 154 non-teaching staff are working in this college out of the sanctioned strength of 112 and 165 respectively.

Achievements of the University:

Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal has been accredited by the ICAR, New Delhi in the year 2001. The 'Udyog Excellence Award' to the institution was awarded for the outstanding achievement through economic and social development, by the International Institute of Education and Management, New Delhi. ICAR and TANUVAS best teachers' awards were awarded to the staff members of this institute. ISO 9001: 2000 certification was awarded to this institute from the year 2004- 2006.
