Catholicate College, Pathanamthitta was established in 1952. The institute is a special grade college of Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam and re-accredited with B++ status by the NAAC. The institute started as pioneer institution of higher education of the Malankara Orthodox Church,under the educational agency HH Baselious Marthoma PauloseII Catholicos of the East. The instutte motto is“fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom”.

The college has completed fifty-nine years in disseminating quality education in the central travancore region of Kerala.
