The YCMOU stands for “Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University” which was established in July in the year of 1989 by a Bill passed by Maharashtra State Legislature. The YCMOU is the member of many prestigious associations like Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) and many more. The Headquarter of YCMOU is located at Nashik. The main aim behind the establishment of the university is to impart vocational and technical skills to its students. And this university only offers distance programs to its students.


The MBA programme is offered by the School of Commerce and Management which is one of the eight schools in the university. The minimum duration of this course is 2 years and maximum it can be for 5 years. An attendance of 50% is compulsory for the counselling sessions. This MBA programme consists of 20 papers and a Project Work and this programme facilitate the students for the specialization in one among 4 different branches of management.

The medium of Instructions and Examinations at all the centres is in English.

The program is fully based on the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and the academic performance of the students is measured in Cumulative Grade Point Scale (CGPA). The Evaluation procedure consists of two parts, i.e. Internal Assessments and End Examinations which are of 20 marks and 80 marks respectively. A minimum of 40% of marks is mandatory for the students to pass in any course. All the Regional and Study centres are very helpful and fruitful for the students.

Application and Admission Procedure

Online Registration

The admission procedure of YCMOU distance MBA begins with online registration. In the first step, Candidates have to register themselves for appearing in an entrance examination, and this entrance examination is mandatory for all the candidates who are willing to take admission in the Distance MBA program. The candidates have to register themselves online on the official website of the university.

MBA Entrance Exam

The entrance test is a combination of such questions that aim to verify the various mental abilities and skills in the candidates. The entrance test contains the following necessary topics on which the candidates are examined:

The Entrance Examination Fee for the MBA program is only Rs. 500/-. The Entrance Fee should be paid only through online mode with Debit/Credit card or Net Banking, etc.

Submission at Study Center

Once the candidates have cleared the Entrance Examination then they have to report themselves in the respective Study Centres (chosen by them in the application form) along with a printout of the Application form, Admit card and some important Academic documents to confirm their Admission. The important documents are listed below:

  2. Class 12th Mark sheet
  3. Graduation Mark sheet
  4. Transfer/Migration Certificate

The YCMOU also provides the facility of Re-registration but it is valid for 3 years only and it can be done only once.

Fee Structure of YCMOU MBA 2023-24

The total course fee for YCMOU MBA programme in 2023-24 is Rs. 32,700/-. The course fee should be paid after the completion of the registration process at the study centres to confirm the admission.

The Programme Fee should be paid annually, together for the two semesters.

Study Center Fee

The Study centre Fee (SCF) is to be paid directly to the respective study centre as selected by the candidates themselves. And all the students are directed to keep the fee receipt for future references. The Study centre Fee for 1st and 2nd year is Rs. 3000/- and Rs. 4500/- respectively.

Eligibility Criteria

The YCMOU welcomes all the citizens of India to take admission in the MBA program. The eligibility criteria for taking admission in MBA program is as follows:

  • Candidates have passed a bachelor degree of three years from a university recognised from Association of Indian Universities (AIU) or University Grants Commission (UGC) with at least 50% of marks in aggregate or equivalent.
  • There is a relaxation of 5% for the candidates belonging to backward classes or differently-abled category of Maharashtra state.
  • Also, the candidates have to qualify the Entrance Examination conducted by YCMOU.

The YCMOU do not offer any kind of Placements for the students of the MBA programme. Also, the university does not have any kind of special Placement cell for the students. But it may be possible that the university administration can develop a Placement cell after some time.
