The University of Mysore is located in Mysore. It is a public state university established in 1916. It is one of the oldest universities in India and the first in Karnataka. Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV founded the university.

It is funded by the government and became autonomous in 1956.

The University of Mysore offers UG ,PG and doctoral programs. It provides courses in law, engineering, journalism and computer science. There are 85 postgraduate departments and over 150 postgraduate programs.

University has about 53,000 students and a faculty strength of 232. It affiliates with 226 colleges offering diverse academic options.

The campus includes a library, boys' and girls' accommodation, a canteen, an amphitheater, an auditorium and a swimming pool.

It accepts Karnataka PGCET scores for MBA, MCA and M.Tech programs.
