BLDE University is located in Bijapur. It is a Deemed University established in 1986. University is a private institute situated in Vijayapura. Campus covers an area of 55 acres and consists of 24 departments.

The university provides medical education aimed at addressing the healthcare needs of North Karnataka. The flagship course is the MBBS program which has an intake capacity of 150 students. In addition to MBBS program, university offers PG programs in 21 disciplines, a super specialty program in Urology (M.Ch.) and a PhD program in 12 disciplines.

The teaching hospital associated with the university has 1218 beds. University accepts NEET exam for different courses. For some postgraduate programs candidates must take BLDEU-SSET exam conducted by university.

BLDE University has received an 'A' Grade accreditation from NAAC with a CGPA of 3.09. The university has also been recognized in the 'ATAL Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements' by the Government of India.
