What is GPAT?

Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT) is a national level medical exam for Admission into 24000 seats of Master’s in Pharmacy (M.Pharm) program. It is conducted by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) as per the directions of the Ministry of Human Resource & Development.

GPAT 2018 was conducted on 21st January 2018. Aspirants can use the score of this exam for admission into different pharmacy courses. It is a gateway for admission into 841 AICTE approved pharmacy institutions/colleges/universities.

It is to be noted that, the scores are also used by colleges to grant scholarships and financial assistance to deserving students with good score.

Structure of GPAT exam

GPAT 2018 is an online computer based test. It is conducted only once in a particular year.

The exam consists of 125 questions which are to be answered in a 180 minutes i.e 3 hours. For every correct answer, the candidate will get 4 Marks and 1 Mark will be deducted from the total score for every wrong answer.

The exam will be conducted only in the English language. The maximum marks for the exam is 500 (125 Questions X 4 Marks).

Candidates have to report to the exam center where they will be provided a computer on which the exam will be conducted. The questions will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) wherein the candidate will have to choose one answer out of the 4 options.

NOTE- If the candidate does not mark any option, he/she will not be given any marks.

Candidates should visit the official website before the exam day and attempt the test paper/mock test for a better understanding of the exam pattern/questions. By doing this, they will have a good idea about their preparation.

GPAT 2018 Eligibility Criteria

It is very important for each candidate to satisfy the eligibility criterion laid down by the exam conducting body-

  1. The candidate should be an Indian citizen.
  2. He/she should have a graduation degree (4 years after 10+2) in Pharmacy from a recognized institution. Candidates appearing/passed in B.Pharm lateral entry can also apply.
  3. Aspirants in the final year of graduation can also apply.
  4. There is no age restriction for appearing ion GPAT 2018.

Who cannot apply?

  • Any candidate who does not fulfill any of the above conditions cannot appear for the exam.
  • Tech (Pharmaceutical and fine chemical technology) pursuing/passed students cannot appear for the exam.

NOTE- Any candidate who suffers not less than 40% of the below-listed disabilities qualifies as a ‘Person with Physical Disabilities (PWD)’-

Application forms and submission procedure

 Registration for GPAT 2018 was available from 18th October 2018 to 25th December 2018.

Candidate need to visit the official website to register for the exam.

We have provided a sample of the registration form below. Candidates need to fill out their personal and communication details on this form. They are required to fill in 3 preferred cities for the exam.

Below is a step by step explanation on registration for GPAT 2018.

STEP-1: Self Registration

  1. Candidates need to visit the official site of AICTE-GPAT and fill the registration form.
  2. In the form, they need to fill in personal details and communication details. It should be noted that information once filled cannot be changed.
  3. Once the form is submitted, the candidate will receive a 6 digit password which he/she needs to use along with their email-id for login into their account.

STEP-2: Payment of Application Fee

Application fee can be paid via online or offline mode.

ONLINE MODE- Credit Card/Debit Card/Net Banking

OFFLINE MODE- Candidates can download the challan from the official website and visit the nearest SBI Bank with the challan and the required cash. It should be noted that the cash will be deposited only from the next day of challan generation.

STEP-3 Submission

Once the candidate is done with the payment, he/she will be asked to complete the rest of the form. Once completed, they need to submit the same.  They need to accept a declaration and click on ‘I AGREE’ checkbox/button.

Required documents

  1. The candidate will be required to upload a photograph of his/her. Make sure the image is clicked on a white background and the dimension and size is 140X160 and 60Kb respectively.
  2. A photo of your signature on a white background. The dimension and size should be 60X90 and 30Kb respectively.

It is to be noted that once submitted the form cannot be rectified in any case.

Prerequisites before you fill the application form-

  • A computer/laptop with a good Internet connection.
  • A valid email id. All communication will be done through this for the duration of the exam.
  • A valid mobile number.
  • A credit/debit card in case of online transaction.
  • A printer to print challan, in case of offline transaction.

Admit Card

The admit card for GPAT 2018 was released online on 12 January 2018.

Candidates can download the admit card from the official website of the exam. To download the admit card, he/she has to fill in email-id and password.

Candidates are advised to wait for some time as the site will take a few seconds to upload.

  1. Click on this link
  2. Use your login credentials i.e Emailid and Password. In case, the candidate has forgotten their password, they can click on ‘Forgot Password’ option to retrieve it
  3. Click on ‘Sign in’ button to access the admit card
  4. The admit card will appear on the screen. Download it and take a print out

The candidate should carry atleast one of the below mentioned documents-

  • Driver’s License
  • Passport
  • Pan Card
  • Voter Id
  • Aadhaar Card
  • Or any other notarized document with candidates Name, Photo, Signature and Residential Address.

Details on the Admit Card

The GPAT 2018 Admit card will contain the following information of the candidate-

  • Name
  • Photograph and signature
  • Roll Number
  • Test date and time
  • Reporting time
  • Venue name
  • Exam center address
  • Important instructions

Points to remember-

  1. Candidates belonging to SC/ST category need to bring along valid caste certificate.
  2. Physically disabled candidates need to bring along a valid Disability Certificate.
  3. The exam center once allotted cannot be changed.
  4. The name of the candidate provided in the registration process and the name on the class 10th mark sheet should be the same. Any discrepancy will lead to cancellation of the registration.

Admission Procedure

GPAT 2018 result has been declared on 15 February, 2018.

The result of the exam will be announced on the official website. Through GPAT scores candidates can apply for admissions into M.Pharm course in all AICTE approved colleges.

Once, the results are out candidates can apply for coucelling into the respective colleges separately. The admission will be based on GPAT scores.

Post result, an All India Merit List is declared which contains the Candidate’s Name, Roll Number, Rank/score, Category, Qualified or not status.

This year the merit list was declared on 17th February, 2018.

Notification

GPAT 2019 notification will be announced in the month of October 2018.

GPAT Result

The result for GPAT 2019 is to be announced during the 2ndweek of February, 2019. The registered candidates are advised to download their marks card by applying their user login details. The candidates are also advised to keep their GPAT result 2019 till the admission procedure is completed.

Cut-Off

The cutoff for the GPAT 2019 will be the minimum marks which are to be secured by candidates for qualifying the entrance exam and forbeing shortlisted for the counselling procedure in their respective individual participating college. Moreover, there will be no sectional GPAT 2019 cutoff announcement by the exam conducting authority.

Aspirants can check the GPAT cutoff of 2017 for each category as shown below in order to have a fair idea about the 2019 admissions:

Score Validity

The validity of the examination score stands for the particular academic year only. Hence, the validity of GPAT 2019 score will only be for the academic year 2019-20.

Every candidate will get only one chance to write GPAT for a particular academic year. Request for multiple attempts in any scenario will not be entertained by the exam conducting body.

However, if the candidate is registering for Ph.D. degree and is also availing the National Doctoral Scholarship, then the GPAT 2019 score will be valid for up to three years after the announcement of GPAT 2019 result.

Reservation/Seat Distribution

There are no specific reservations for and candidates for the GPAT 2019. The reservation will depend solely on the colleges that the candidates wish to apply.

GPAT 2018 Counselling Schedule

There will not be any specific counselling that will take place for GPAT 2019. However, candidates are requested to appear to their respective institutions for their respective counselling. The allotment of seats will depend on the candidates test score in the given examination.

The mock test is available for practice on the official website.

Registered candidates can visit the given link and can attempt the mock test of GPAT. They are advised to attempt these papers before taking the actual test. This will help them to get accustomed to the level of the questions asked in the examination.
