The Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI) was established in 1989. CMI is a Deemed University-Private.

CMI is an autonomous institute. It is recognized as a University by the UGC in 2006.

CMI offers different courses. It has two BSc (Honours) programs- Mathematics and Computer Science and Mathematics and Physics. It also offers three MSc programs- Mathematics Computer Science and Data Science. BSc (Hons.) in Mathematics & Computer Science is flagship course.

The institute admits around 200 students annually. It has more than 50 faculty members.

CMI provides residential facilities for both male and female students. Its library includes many books, newspapers and journals.

Admissions occur through an entrance exam. Students who pass Indian National Mathematics Olympiad can directly join BSc (Hons.) in Mathematics and Computer Science.

CMI is accredited by NAAC with “A” grade and approved by AICTE. It ranks 64 in India and 4005 globally.

CMI maintains a formal agreement with Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris for student and faculty exchanges. Students spend summers at ENS working on research problems. CMI has Algolabs a society to enhance industry interaction.
