Model Engineering College (MEC) Ernakulam

Model Engineering College (MEC) is located in Thrikkakara, Kochi. Government-run institute was established in 1989. It was first self-financing college set up by Government of Kerala. Institute of Human Resources Development (IHRD) an agency under Government of Kerala founded this college. MEC spans an area of 14 acres and is about 12 kilometers from city center of Kochi.

MEC is a public college. It was first institute affiliated with Cochin University of Science and Technology. Since 2015 it has been affiliated with APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University. The college offers four undergraduate programs and five postgraduate programs. Undergraduate courses include B.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Electronics & Biomedical Engineering. Flagship program is B.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering.

Institute has over 2000 students and more than 200 faculty members. MEC provides many facilities like a college bus, men's hostel, ATM, cafeteria, WiFi, counseling service and a library. Library has a collection of books and journals in Electronics, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering and other subjects.

Admissions are based on Kerala Engineering Agricultural Medical (KEAM) exam and Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). The college is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA).

In rankings, MEC was ranked 37th among top 100 engineering colleges in India by Outlook magazine in 2017. It was also ranked 10th among the Top Government Engineering Colleges with the best value for money by India Today. The college collaborates internationally through its tech community including the Hack Club MEC and the Developer Students Club (Google).

The placement record at MEC is very good. Top recruiters include Amazon, Microsoft and LinkedIn. The highest package offered is INR 30 LPA and the average package is INR 8-9 LPA.
