The Central Institute of Fisheries, Nautical & Engineering Training (CIFNET) is located in Ernakulam. It was established in 1963 and operates under Government of India. Institute is under the support of Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.

CIFNET focuses on training in Nautical Science, Fishing Technology, Marine Engineering and related disciplines. It aims to support development of technical manpower for marine operations. CIFNET offers a Bachelor of Fisheries Science (Nautical Science) which is a four-year program. This course has approval from Cochin University of Science & Technology and recognition from UGC. Also it provides trade courses for vessel navigator and marine fitter which are approved by the Directorate General of Employment and Training.

Institute provides hostel facilities for trainees accommodating up to 150 students. Its facilities include classrooms, laboratories, a workshop, a Nautical-Chart practice hall, a simulator center, craft and gear practical areas and a library.

Admission to various courses is through an All India Entrance Examination. Institute is affiliated to Cochin University of Science & Technology and is recognized by UGC.
