Solapur University is a state public university established in 2004. It started as a postgraduate center of Shivaji University.

University has 10 schools that offer undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD programs. It provides courses in different disciplines including Arts, Science, Technology, Pharmacy, Management, Computer Science, Home Science and Social Science. The institute has around 60,000 students enrolled.

Solapur University supports numerous facilities for student development. These include separate hostels for boys and girls, IT infrastructure, library services, medical care, sports amenities, a gym and Wi-Fi access.

Admissions are based on the entrance exam (SU CET) conducted by the Solarpur university. For MBA and MCA programs university recognizes MAH MBA CET and MAH MCA CET respectively. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has accredited the university with a grade of 'B'. It is also recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

In terms of ranking, Solapur University is 282nd in India and 5550th globally for 2024. It was rated 21st among top universities in Maharashtra in 2021. The university has an international collaboration with the Finland Futures Research Centre.
