What is BITSAT?

BITSAT stands for Birla Institute of Technology and Science Aptitude Test and is conducted by the Birla Institute every year to select students for their BE and M.Sc programs. Birla Institute of Technology and Science have three campuses in India located in Goa, Pilani, and Hyderabad. They also have a campus in Dubai. The details of the exam are as follows:

BITSAT 2018 Pattern of the exam

BITSAT is a 3-hour long exam containing multiple choice questions. The question paper contains four sections namely Physics, Chemistry, English, Logical Reasoning and Mathematics.

Questions: It contains total 150 questions from Mathematics / Biology, Physics, Chemistry, English and Logical Reasoning. However, if the candidate is applying for the pharmacy course, then their Biology marks will be considered.

Marks: The candidate is awarded 3 marks for every right answer and 1 mark is deducted for every wrong answer. The university conducts the exam for a period of one week and students can choose the date accordingly. Additionally, the exam is conducted in slots with two slots every day.

Duration: There is no time limit for any section and hence the candidates can go back and forth between sections. If the candidate finishes all the 150 questions before the completion of 3 hours, they can attempt an additional 12 questions in each section. However, they will only be able to access these 12 questions in each section and not the completed 150 questions that they already answered.

Medium: English is the language medium allowed.

For the year 2018, the applications will open in January 2018 and will close by March 2018. They also have a sample test that students can take to assess their preparation level. This test can be accessed at the official website of the exam.

BITSAT 2018 Eligibility criteria

  • The student must have scored a minimum aggregate of 75% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. If the student has opted for biology, then the aggregate will be calculated for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  • For BITSAT 2018, people who will be writing their 12th grade exam in 2018 or students who have given their exam in 2017 are eligible.
  • Students who have finished their 12th grade before 2014 are not allowed to take up this exam.
  • For students who have given multiple attempts for their 12th examinations, only their latest attempt will be taken into consideration.

Additionally, students who are the toppers of all the central and state board 12th exams will be given direct entry into the university.

BITSAT 2018 Application forms and submission procedure

  • The application form for the BITSAT exam will be available at the official page of the university. Students will have to download the form and fill it up. Additionally, they also have to attach the necessary documents. It is advised that the candidate’s double check the details in the application form because once entered, it becomes difficult to change.
  • Once the candidate fills up the form, he/she should upload all the necessary documents and submit the application form online.
  • The candidate will also have to pay the exam fee before submitting the application form. While submitting the form, every candidate is given an application number and it is recommended that the candidate should note down this number for future references.
  • It is also advised that the candidate take a hard copy of the application form.

The documents that are needed are as follows:

  • A passport size photograph
  • Candidate’s signature
  • An attested copy of the candidate’s 10th grade mark sheet
  • An attested copy of the 12th grade, if applicable

The exam fee is Rs. 2750 for male candidates and Rs. 2250 for female candidates. For people taking the exam in Dubai, the exam fee amounts to Rs. 4000 (US $60) for both male and female candidates. It is important to note that the exam fee is non-refundable.

Payment of the exam fee can be done through the use of debit/credit cards or net banking using the online gateway payment portal or through cash at all ICICI bank branches in India. For foreign candidates, payment can be done only through international debit or credit cards using the online gateway payment.

It is important to note that students applying for a BE (Hons) Program and ME / MBA programs have a separate application form. Care needs to be taken while downloading the correct application form.  In short, the following are the steps to be followed:

  • Download the application form.
  • Fill up the application form
  • Make the exam fee payment through any one of the above-mentioned options
  • Upload the required documents
  • Submit the application form

BITSAT 2018 Admit Card

Once the candidate has successfully registered, he/ she can download the admit card from the website. The university has a time limit by which the candidates have to download their admit cards and hence it is advised that candidates keep a close look at the timeline and download the admit card on time.

The admit card is of extreme importance and needs to be carried by the student when appearing for the test. It is to be noted that the students will not be permitted to enter the exam hall without the admit card. The admit card has the following details:

  • Name of the candidate
  • Photo of the student
  • Roll number of the candidate
  • Date of birth
  • Date of the exam
  • Slot of the exam
  • Venue for the exam

The roll number given to the candidate is extremely important and this number will be used for any future references.

BITSAT 2018 Admission Procedure

The results of the exam will be declared on their website and based on the score of the candidates in the BITSAT exam, they are called for counseling. The university creates a merit list that ranks the candidates based on their score.

Specifically, the university releases two lists – one for B. Pharma and the other for the engineering courses. The university will also check for the eligibility criteria like the minimum score secured by the student in their 12th grade.  Once this step is cleared the candidate is free to choose the course based on the availability.

Once the results of the exam are out, students are called for counseling where they can apply for various programs offered at this university based on the availability.

The results are announced in June and the admit list and the waitlist comes out during the 1st week of July. Based on the score of the candidate and the availability of the seats, the students will be allotted their seats. In case of a tie, the university gives preference to students who have scored high in Mathematics, followed by Physics, Chemistry and finally the aggregate scored by the candidates in their 12th grade.

Once the students finish their counseling, they need to report at the allotted college with the required documents to confirm their admission. The fees for the respective courses will also be given to the students at the time of counseling.

BITSAT 2018 Syllabus

BITSAT will be a test of 3 hours. There will be four parts in the question paper namely – Physics, Chemistry, English Proficiency & Logical Reasoning, and Mathematics/Biology (For B.Pharm.).

BITSAT 2018 Results

The results of BITSAT 2018 will be declared around the second week of May 2018. Candidates will be able to check their results and download their scorecard from the official website. BITSAT 2018 Score Validity

The validity of the examination score stands for the particular academic year only. Hence, the validity of BITSAT 2018 score will be for the academic year 2018-19. Every candidate will get only one chance to write BITSAT for a particular academic year. Request for multiple attempts in any scenario will not be entertained by the exam conducting body.

 BITSAT 2018 Reservation/Seat Distribution

The admission to the institutes taking up BITSAT score will be purely on merit. Only those candidates will be called for counselling process whose score will come to a minimum acceptable level i.e. those who will score more or equal to the cut-off marks.

BITSAT 2018 Counselling Schedule

Candidates will be able to view their scores as soon as the exam will be over. This score will be the basis of their selection in BITSAT. The scores can also be viewed by simply logging on to the account made on the official website.

After the successful conduction of BITSAT, the results will be declared. It is expected to be rolled out in the month of May/June 2018. Those candidates who will be scoring above the cut off mark will be shortlisted for counselling according to the order of merit. Based on the merit list, candidates will be issued admit card/ waitlist for the counselling process. The waitlist is for those candidates who are not allotted seats in the first round of counselling but can expect admission in subsequent rounds.

Candidates attending the counselling process have to ensure that they are in possession of all the required documents like:

  • 10th class mark sheet and passing certificate
  • 12th class mark sheet and passing certificate
  • Hall Ticket
  • Score Card
  • Admit Card

Hall ticket, Score Card, Admit Card must be preserved until the final process of counselling and seat allotment is over.

It is suggested that the candidates should go through previous year papers of BITSAT and also the sample papers related to the same. They are advised to attempt these papers before taking the actual test. This will help them to get accustomed to the level of the questions asked in the examination.
