The University of Allahabad is a central university located in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. It was established in 1887 and is fourth oldest university in India. The university is a public institute and it is recognized as an Institute of National Importance.

University has 32 academic departments offering over 130 courses across four streams. Flagship programs include BSc, BA LLB, BA and MBA. Approximately 45,000 students study at the university.

As a central university it has 11 colleges affiliated with it. The university provides many student facilities like a central library, hostels for boys and girls, classrooms and a canteen. It also features a computer center supporting teaching and research activities.

Admissions depend on entrance tests, including CUET, PGAT, CRET, GATE and UGC-NET. For the BTech program JEE Main scores are also accepted.

University is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with a grade of "B++". It is recognized by the University Grants Commission of India.

In the 2024 rankings, the University of Allahabad holds the 31st position in India and 1632nd globally. It is also ranked between 401 and 450 in Asia by QS World University Rankings of 2020.
