 Mangalore University started distance education as per the National Education Policy.

The Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), Mangalore University, offers a variety of undergraduate, post graduate, diploma and certificate courses to students who cannot afford to study in a regular university opting for full time courses, making access to higher information much easier and cheaper.

The DDE, Mangalore University offers both conventional and innovative courses for knowledge proliferation and makes it available to all sections of the society.

ADMISSIONS

  • Admissions to the various courses offered at the beginning of every academic year.
  • The candidates who are interested in enrolling for the correspondence courses are requested to fill-in the prescribed application after carefully reading the prospectus.
  • The documents required to be submitted are:
  1. Application form, filled and signed.
  2. Three recent passport size photos, submitted separately. Name, course and serial number of the application form should be written on the back of the photos.
  3. The candidates are also requested to attach the original marks card of their previous qualification i.e., if the candidate is applying for UG courses, they should furnish the marks card of their 10th and 12th qualifications and if the candidate is applying for PG courses then they have to submit their UG marks sheet.

  • Foreign students are also welcome to apply.
  • The application form is liable to rejection if it is incomplete, the correct documents are not furnished/attested, and/or non-enclosure of the DD or cheque.
  • The application form can be submitted either in person or by post:

a) Submission in person: The candidates may submit their duly filled in application forms in person. In such cases the candidates should bring with them their original marks cards and Degree Certificates of the qualifying examinations along with one set of xerox copies of the same for attestation in the following Regional Centres of the Directorate:

i) University College, Hampankatta, Mangalore.

ii) F.M.K.M.Cariappa College, Madikeri.

iii) Government Fr. Gr. College, Thenkanidiyoor, Udupi

iv) The Director, Directorate of Correspondence Courses, Mangalore University, Shopping Complex, Mangalagangothri – 574 199.

b) Submission by post: The candidates can submit their application forms by Registered Post to:

The original marks card and attested Xerox copies should be accompanied with the application form and the post should reach the Directorate on or before the last date. The originals will be returned back to the students after the Directorate verifies them.

Until the Directorate confirms a candidate’s admission, it is only provisional.

FEE STRUCTURE

  • The fee structure varies for different courses and duration of the course.
  • There is a scholarship granted for SC/STs or OBC.
  • Each course has a specific fee structure for tuition and other extra fees.

  • The quadruplicate of the challan/DD should be submitted along with the application. Candidates are advised to preserve a triplicate of the challan with them that maybe asked to be submitted if required.

  1. Postal fees for students residing outside India: Rs1000/- per year
  2. Fees for transfer Certificate: Rs. 300/-
  3. Penalty for enrolment after a gap of years/s: Rs.500/- per year
  4. Penalty for late enrolment in the same year: Rs.75/- per day
  5. Penalty for late submission of assignments: Rs.200/-per day
  6. The study materials and other circulars and contents will be sent by ordinary post and the candidate can collect them from their nearby study centre.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Post Matric Scholarship to the students belonging to SC/ST Category:

The Taluk Social Welfare Officer accepts applications from SC/ST students and provides them with Scholarships under the provision from the Government of India. Interested students can apply and avail the scholarship either after admissions or before the last date specified by the Taluk officer, whichever is earlier.

EXAMINATIONS

  • Every year in the month of May/June, The Directorate holds examinations for various programmes in Mangalore, Madikeri and Udupi.

  • There are marks allotted for Internal Assessment also. Each student will have to work on two assignments, each fetching them 10 marks. At the time of admission, the students will be provided with the topics for the assignment and notified of the deadline to submit them. If the candidate fails to submit the assignments before the deadline, to the Directorate or any study centre close to them, the assignment shall not be considered
  • Every time a student is writing an examination for a subject for the first time, they should register for those subjects.
