 Rabindra Bharati University, graded ‘A’ by NAAC, was the third university in West Bengal, established in 1962 on the birth centenary of Rabindranath Tagore. The university offers both undergraduate(UG) and postgraduate(PG) programs specifically in arts, fine arts and visual arts under Faculty of Arts.

The Directorate of Distance Education was founded in 2002, and currently has about 3500 students enrolled in various programmes, who cannot attend regular classroom coursework. Apart from its art’s based education pattern , the university also arranges higher study and research in languages such as Bengali ,English and Sanskrit and in other disciplines like Economics, History, Library and Information Science , Social Environment among others.

 Admission and Application Procedure

Admission Procedure: Candidates should first go through the prospectus (http://www.rbudde.in/pdf/Prospectus.pdf ) before filling up the application. All applications must be made online, though payment of the application fee can be done both online or offline. The following is the admission process –

  1. Candidates must visit www.rbudde.in and click on ‘Online Application for Admission’ on the homepage
  2. After successful registration, login using the created username and password, and fill up the application form
  3. Take printout of the duly filled application containing a unique Application Identification Number
  4. Pay the required application fee and course fee online or offline (See below)

Application fee: The application fee is Rs.120 till the last date of submission. A late fee of Rs.100 is applicable for applications made up to one month after last date.

Mode of Payment: Once the application form is submitted, the candidate will have to visit https://www.onlinesbi.com/prelogin/institutiontypedisplay.htm  and have the option of making the payment online or offline. In the SBI portal, please select ‘West Bengal’ as State and ‘Educational Institution’ as Type and select ‘DDE-Rabindra Bharati University’ from the list. The required fees to be paid will be shown.

  1. Online Payment – Using Credit/Debit card. Print the e-receipt generated for future reference.
  2. Offline Payment – Print the e-Challan generated and submit the fee printed on the challan in Cash at any of the SBI branches across India. Keep the ‘Student copy’ of the e-challan for future reference.

Supporting Documents: Following are the documents the student should keep ready-in-hand:-

  • A scanned copy of passport-sized photograph (maximum 200 KB) and signature.
  • The application form, along with self-attested copies of 10th mark sheet, 12th mark sheet, payment e-receipt/ challan, graduation mark sheets (for postgraduate courses only).

The original copies of the mark sheets must also be taken for verification.

  • Other relevant documents must be submitted to the study centre of choice as mentioned by the candidate in the application.

In case of offline application, how to obtain the application form? Applications are usually made online. However, a limited number of application forms may be available through the Kolkata Main Office (see contact details below).

Last date for application: Applications close by mid-September every year, with a extension till October with late fee of Rs.100.

Important Note: For candidates from SAARC countries, the course fee is double that of the fees mentioned above. Registered students of Rabindra Bharati University are exempted from paying the registration fee. The costs of field visit, dissertation, duplicate documents, etc., are not included in the course fee. Certificate and Registration fees of Rs.150 must be paid separately.

Ques. When does the fee need to be paid?

Ans. Fees must be paid at the beginning of each semester every year.

Ques.  Can it be paid in instalments?

Ans. Yes, the course fee and the examination fee, both are paid in equal instalments twice a year.

Scholarships

Scholarships are not offered by Rabindra Bharati University for students in the distance education programmes. However, a limited number of scholarships to meritorious or reserved category students from low income families who qualify as state residents, may be available from the state government.  Eligibility Criteria

Age & Reservation Criteria: There is no upper age limit for candidates to any of the courses. No relaxation is provided for reserved category candidates, though there might be reduction in course fees. Please contact the University for Further Information.

Note: MA – Geography and Master of Social Work have limited number of seats. Admission is done on the basis of a common Merit List.

Eligibility of the applicant will be verified through original testimonials to be produced at the Main Campus or Study Center before Identity Card is issued.

Specialization/Courses Offered

Rabindra Bharati University offers only postgraduate courses through its Directorate of Distance Education. Master of Arts (MA) programme is offered in Bengali, History, English, Political Science, Sanskrit, Education, Geography, Environmental Studies, Vocal Music and Rabindra Sangeet. Master of Social Work (MSW) and a Diploma in Tagore Literature is also offered by the university.

 Approval

All courses through the DDE are approved by the Distance Education Council (DEC) and UGC, New Delhi.

Rabindra Bharati University has also been accredited with ‘Grade A’ by NAAC, having a CGPA of 3.10.

The university does not offer traditional placement opportunities and placements mostly occur in academia and cultural organisations. Please contact the University for Future Prospects of your subject choice.
